These woodworking workshop projects offer a behind-the-scenes look at how each piece comes together inside the 3 Dogs Woodworking shop. From raw hardwood selection to milling, shaping, and finishing, every step of the woodworking process is done by hand right here in New Hampshire. Whether it’s a cutting board, custom kitchen piece, or a one-of-a-kind build, this workbench is where ideas turn into functional, handcrafted wood projects built to last. This is what the shop looks like right now — projects in motion, ideas taking shape, and a few pieces the Board of Directors is keeping a close eye on.
Featured Woodworking Workshop Project: Hardwood Tortilla Press
This week on the bench is a custom hardwood tortilla press built for a customer. While there are plenty of inexpensive presses available, the goal here was to create something designed to last for generations and look just as good hanging in a kitchen as it does making dinner.
The press features a laminated hardwood construction using contrasting maple, walnut, and cherry, with every component shaped, sanded, and fitted by hand. The handle and linkage were designed for smooth operation and plenty of leverage, while the cooking surface includes engraved family recipes that turn a functional tool into a keepsake.
Like many projects in the shop, this one combines traditional woodworking with modern CNC techniques. The machine handles the precision work, but the final shaping, fitting, sanding, and finishing still happen by hand. The result is a piece that is equal parts kitchen tool, family heirloom, and conversation starter.
It’s a reminder that woodworking isn’t always about furniture or decor—sometimes it’s about creating something that helps bring people together around a table.
